Matilda Sakamoto
Matilda Sakamoto was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She began studying dance at Hamas Dance Center, moving to California Dance Theater and Marat Daukayev's School of Ballet, in her high school years. As well as receiving training from various programs including Springboard Danse Montreal, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, LINES Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet School. While at Juilliard Matilda has performed works by Kyle Abraham, Kate Weare, Brian Brooks, and Camille A. Brown. As well as repertory by Elliot Feld, José Limón and Merce Cunningham. Matilda has also appeared in Fall for Dance 2014 and Kate Weare's 10th anniversary at BAM Fisher.
Besides dancing Matilda loves to choreograph and create visual art in the forms of drawing, painting, photography and film. She is excited to meld these worlds together, and expand into new ones. To create all encompassing works of art, that push her to become a deeper and truer artist and person. In life Matilda hopes to create, collaborate, choreograph, dance professionally, do good things and be free.
